Cynthia-
Same to you with your posts! And congratulations on your week teaching at Anderson Ranch. Amazing!

Have fun with the firing! It is awfully addicting. My suggestion for you, and anyone else who is lucky enough to sneak a piece or two into a soda kiln, is to use porcelain and glaze the interior with a shino glaze. The soda ash from the shino will come through the walls of the pot and give it extra blushing. Extra curvy pots, or pieces with angles will really like the soda.

You write such wonderful, thoughtful and resourceful posts, Emily! Thank you...

I've never participated in a soda firing, but the Colorado Potters Guild is about to do a group firing in a couple of weeks. Only a handful of members use the soda kiln and they want to generate more interest. It's recently been rebuilt after the the bag wall collapsed and an arch was close to it. I'm going to try to get a few pieces in the firing and am afraid it might be addicting!
